Training in general surgery is five years long, and this is a prerequisite for subspecializing in surgery of the colon & rectum. Dr. Atallah's training in general surgery was quite broad and included pediatric, thoracic, abdominal, trauma, endocrine, oncologic, pancreatic, and vascular surgery -- as well as solid organ transplantation.
