Dr. Atallah is a leading researcher in the field of colon and rectal surgery, having published 90 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters in scientific journals and textbooks. He is currently writing a book on his two main interests and areas of expertise and innovation — TAMIS and taTME. Link: Dr. Atallah’s 2019 Textbook on TAMIS and taTME (request a copy of the book)
He had previously served as the Principle Investigator for Multi-center Trial on taTME (Florida Hospital, Orlando Site) and was instrumental in the trial’s launch at FH (AdventHealth). Dr. Atallah was the 2018 Principle Investigator for Feasibility Trial for a new, flexible robotic system (Medrobotics), a Reviewer for over 15 scientific journals , Section Editor for Innovation in Colorectal Surgery Tech. in Coloproctology, Associate Editor Dis. of Colon & Rectum, Associate Editor for MAP (Mesentery and Peritoneum).

You can read more of Dr. Atallah's discussions on Human Epigenetics and Cancer Genetics. Prior to enrolling in medical school, Dr Atallah studied molecular genetics at Harvard University and worked on global efforts to complete The Human Genome Project at the Genome Science and Technology Center (GESTEC), a part of UT-Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, TX (read more/photos).
In 2018, Dr. Atallah initiated six clinical trials to be conducted at the Endo-Surgical Center of Florida and the Digestive and Liver Center of Florida. Each of these will examine next-generation drug therapies for inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s and Ulcerative Colitis) including #Risankizumab in hopes of finding better treatments for patients afflicted with these ailments.
In 2019, Dr. Atallah began reseach with leading scientists at UCF-College of Medicine to study next generation applications for image guided surgery. Together, they hope to find methods to localize cancer with specialized dyes that will ‘light up’ cancer cells making the removal of cancer during surgery more likely to be complete and successful.
Dr. Atallah’s other areas of interest and active reseach includes 'Digital Surgery’ and advanced robotic surgery and navigation (see SAGES video, 2019). and he is currently writing a book entitled Digital Surgery along with leaders from around the globe; anticipated publication by Springer Nature in March 2020.
